WOIB Walk 21

8 Walkers Showed For the April 21 WOIB Walk. . .

Sunday April 21 WOIB Walkers, by Jara

And thanks to a friendly passerby and Jara (a participant) who handed him her camera, we have the photograph to prove it.

The weather held providing a cool and mostly dry hike through the Kelsey Creek Farm woods, including the one-hundred-and-sixty-something steps.

We decided to include the stairs at the start of the hike to get our hearts pumping. This was a group of nature enthusiasts and it was nice walking with folks who shared their knowledge of plants along the way.

We experienced plenty of skunk cabbage on this hike but it was too late to find blooming trillium. One week earlier, however, I saw this radiant trillium at a nearby park.

I’m sharing it here because it’s a small spring window to find trilliums in bloom, and I love them.

This one was spotted in the Bellevue Botanical Garden. It’s quite a bit different from the one above, but I digress.

WOIB walkers heading to the Kelsey Creek Farm barns

Back to the April WOIB Walk 2013 . . . here we are climbing a small hill to reach the barns and visit the animals.

We were behind a black cow with very short legs who waddled slowly up the hill. This photo doesn’t do it justice.

This one provides a better idea of the waddling rump, but the visual was better in motion from a down-hill perspective. You should’ve been there.

The following flower photographs are courtesy of Jara and as you can see, the rhododendrons were screaming pink.

Spring is a colorful time to walk and as my friend and fellow walker, JoAnn Taylor says, you never know what you will find when you go for a walk. . .

I did catch a glimpse of the big Blue Heron, but he quickly ducked out of view as soon as I pointed him out.  But I got to see his majesty again, and I’m still smiling about it.

Please join us on the third Sunday in May when we gather for another WOIB walk.

May 19 at 2:00 PM. We’ll meet in the Kelsey Creek Farm parking lot and decide where to walk from there.

Walk on my friends.

Great Walk, once again. Looking forward to the next one in May.
Thank you Connie for organizing Walk On. I’m so glad I found you and all who walk. Perhaps we could plan a longer walk or local hike on a Saturday over the next few months as the weather gets better.
So many local trails and I have only done a couple and do want to do more. Just need to find some walking/light hiking companions.
