Grant Money From The Mountaineers Foundation Make The Watershed Walks Program Possible, And It’s FREE!

In collaboration with Feet First and Camp Long, the Watershed Walks Program provides an enjoyable way for people to learn about the relationship between their actions and a clean environment.

It provides participants an opportunity to experience their environment and community in a different, more intimate way.

Attend a Watershed Walks training event this Spring 2012 and you’ll learn how to lead engaging, informative walks in your community.

The Watershed Walks Program is designed to train Neighborhood Walking Ambassadors how to educate residents about the importance of watersheds, using the natural ecology of the Longfellow Creek/Duwamish River Watershed in West Seattle as a case study.

Individuals attending this event will become trained Neighborhood Walking Ambassadors. Camp Long Naturalist Jeanie Murphy-Ouellette and Feet First Volunteer Coordinator Darcy Edmunds will lead this training to teach you:

  • how to effectively engage walking groups
  • what environmental threats affect our watersheds
  • how individuals can reduce their impact on local ecologies

Participation is limited to the first 20 people. All individuals will receive a training packet including a full color watershed map of Longfellow Creek.

The Watershed Walks Program is a collaborative effort by Feet First and Camp Long, made possible through a grant from The Mountaineers Foundation.

For the past ten years Feet First has worked to ensure that all communities in Washington state are walkable.

Walking is a vital transportation mode that connects communities, reduces pollution, improves health and physical fitness, and allows people to explore their natural environment.
