Group Walks

In lieu of the fact that our beloved fitness instructor, Karie Underwood, is taking another vacation this summer, I am organizing a couple walks for my fellow Boot Campers, and anyone else who would like to join us.

These walks will take place during class time.

They are intended to give us a thorough workout and so there won’t be any surprises, you need to know that my Boot Camp mates are pretty darn tough! I’m a newer member of the “Karie Club” and clearly not a “Level 3” like Nancy, but I do try and will therefore attempt to facilitate a good sweat on these walks.

Toward that end, I am asking the participants to bring light hand weights so we can exercise our arms as we walk, though that is entirely up to you.

Each walk has either a lot of steps or a steep incline and is about 5 miles long. The routes have been documented on this site so you can see ahead of time what you’ll be getting yourself into but just so you know . . .

These are two of my favorite walks in some of Bellevue’s best parks.

KC Willy Botan Loop
This is a great 5 mile walk through 3 beautiful parks. We will meet in the Kelsey Creek parking lot and get the 166 steps out of the way posthaste. There are lots of exit points for those who don’t want to complete the walk or who are short on time.

Thursday August 19 · 9:30 AM
Weowna Park
If you haven’t discovered Weowna Park, don’t miss this walk. It’s a lovely, maybe even magical place. My soul gets fed in this park and there are also enough hills and switchbacks to make my body sweat. We can easily add a loop to this walk and increase it to 5 miles, or you can cut out after 3. It’s up to you.

Because there isn’t parking at Weowna, we will meet at Lake Hills Park parking lot at the corner of 164 Ave SE and SE 14 St and walk two blocks to Weowna.

Thank YOU Catharine. I thoroughly enjoyed it as well, especially the company. I liked the short spurts of jogging too. It felt good to make my body sweat–to keep it primed for Karie’s class. Hope to see you on Thursday’s walk at Weowna.

That was fun this morning -didn’t even feel like 5 miles but check with me tomorrow 🙂
I especially liked that most of it was in the woods and relatively cool -that really helped!

That was a quick 5-mile walk, Allison! Must have been the company that made it so much fun. And I also agree with you about walking in the woods–it’s the only way to walk when it’s 90° or above. Lucky for us Bellevue has so many wooded trails, Weowna included. Hope you can make it tomorrow!
