Bellevue Botanical Garden

This is the perfect walking route for City University folks who want to move their bodies but are short on time. It’s called C-U Soon and it was specifically designed for the busy professional or someone who wants a short, easy walk.

It’s the walk to take when you’d rather not because it goes by fast and painlessly.

It’s a quick, flat route to and through the amazing, gem-of-a-park Bellevue Botanical Garden that will lift your spirits and help you keep your commitment to an active, healthy lifestyle. It’s so much better than doing nothing at all and Bellevue Botanical Garden is such a beautiful place you can’t help but feel better after walking through it.

Let’s begin: Cross NE 1 ST and walk into the 11811 A parking lot straight ahead and onto the small ivy trail in the SW corner. Cross Main ST and pick up the gravel trail, following it eastward.

Take the first Right into Bellevue Botanical Garden (Botan) and then a quick Left which will lead you above and around the rock garden.

When you reach the courtyard go Straight and take the gravel Main Loop Trail Left and around.

You will pass this water garden, the Rhodeodendron Glen and the Yao Garden, which is a lovely loop through a tranquil Japanese garden that I recommend adding when you have more time. But on this short walk, stay on the Main Loop Trail past Yao Garden until you reach the Lost Meadow Trail at the Y and go Left. Stay south on this trail and skip the Ravine Trail, which is a nice path that juts through second growth forest and reconnects with the Lost Meadow Trail. (You can take it if you want to add a little length to this walk. It’s a very nice addition.)

Continue around on the Lost Meadow Trail and then down or north and at the T go Left toward the Perennial Borders and back onto the Main Loop Trail. Follow that north to the end and back where we entered the park. Go Left or west on the gravel trail until it ends and cross Main Street to pick up the small ivy trail into the 11811 parking lot. Walk North through the lot to get back to City University.

See how fast that was. You can easily squeeze C-U Soon into your hectic, busy life and it’s easily adaptable to your time and energy levels by walking slower or faster or adding in the Yao Garden loop or the Ravine Trail detour.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for today’s Lunch and Learn at City University. I enjoyed meeting all of you and leading this walk. It went by even faster than I thought it would but I hope you all realized how easy it is to add a short walk into your work day.

Walking is cumulative and every little bit adds to your good health so keep it up and squeeze a short walk into your day whenever you can.

I’d be happy to visit again and lead a longer walk. Just let me know.

Thank you so much for hosting the C – U Soon! walk on behalf of CityU’s Wellness Team! Everyone had a great time and really loved your website. We will definetely have you back! You and your site are exactly what “Wellness” and “Wellness Teams” are all about. Getting out there and doing something! It was nice for people to see how you made the decision to take your personal wellness seriously, and from it this great passion spurred a whole new niche in your life.

Still a skeptic about walking…???
My husband and I walk every day and it is a great way to meet your neighbors and create a sense of community. All of our neighbors have now gotten to know each other and we have a blast! We house sit for each other, socialize and enjoy coming home at night! GET OUT THERE AND WALK PEOPLE! Oh yeah, getting a dog helps, my husband and I have both lost weight since we adopted our new dog Maggie Mae!

And you are right, walking is a great way to meet your neighbors and build a sense of community–one more benefit (of many) to getting outside in your neighborhood and moving your body.
