This was an organized walk produced by the Bellevue Parks & Community Services and The American Volkssport Association. I participate in these organized walks from time to time and always enjoy them. The people who put them together really know what they’re doing and create walks that are interesting and organized with clearly marked routes that make it easy to stay on track.

Downtown Bellevue

The Bellevue Downtown Art & Park Walk that took place on May 22 was no exception. I don’t do a lot of city walking because I find traffic noise bothersome but this was a very interesting city walk that wound nicely through neighboring parks and highlighted public art installations along the way.

Bellevue City Hall

Bellevue City Hall was part of the route. I love its modern architecture but the landscaping and art installations were exceptional. I have to admit I hadn’t visited the grounds before but was glad it was part of the walk and I look forward to visiting again.

Public Library grounds

I’m not going to map the walking directions for you here because it’s not one of my personal routes but you can find it at or see the route in the map below.

My objective here is to let you know that these organized walks are fabulous! I strongly encourage you to try one in the future.

This Art & Park Walk was the second of four planned walks. It is part of Bellevue Park Wellness Walks 2010 to inspire health, wellness and environmental stewardship. The next one is Bellevue’s annual Lake-to-Lake 15K Walk in September and then Lewis Creek 5K Walk in October. You can find additional information, maps and flyers through the City of Bellevue website.

Walk on my friends.

Did you go on this walk too? I’d love to know your experience. Leave a comment so we can get a conversation going. I LOVE COMMENTS!

Not only is it fun walking downtown Bellevue, but it’s much more interesting than driving! AND it reduces our use of oil and, therefore, our carbon footprint! To sum it up, leave your car at home, take a bus downtown, and be GREEN by walking!

Well said Alison! Would you be interested in writing a full article on the sustainability of walking for this site?

Alison, I love walking in the downtown park of Bellevue. In fact, after my knee surgery, it was one of the best places to walk on flat ground and greet a lot of nice faces.
However, as for the bus, I would love to take a bus downtown. The problem is allowing an extra hour from my neighborhood. We are very shy of buses in Bellevue, especially if you are not near a main street. Buses are also hard for Moms carrying strollers. If we could just replace the large ones with a few small electric ones, then we would start having a nice system.
Anyway, I love this site by Connie DeLaVergne on walking and hope to join on some of the walks. Go Connie!
